In my 26th Year...

It is almost Eric's Birthday. Which, I believe, means that it is high time I talked about my birthday celebrations!

Well, there's not actually much to speak about - which is my kind of day indeed. We spent the day roadtripping and laying in the sun and swimming in the most glorious swimming hole. Hamilton Pool is half cavern half swimming hole and a whole lot of summer goodness.

Though is gets crowded quick and there's not much beach to go around because of the whole half-cave factor. So get there early to enjoy a lovely 26th birthday.

Missing NYC..... just a little bit

We were so lucky to spend last week in New York City catching up with old friends, visiting our schools, and seeing our favorite neighborhoods. There was beautiful weather and it was wonderful to see my favorite time in the city - when the winter is just beginning to fade away and spring is poking through. The best place to see the emerging spring is central park.

So much to post... but in the mean time

Sea World came to our school to teach the 3rd graders about conservation. I got to pet the South African Penguin. Made some of my third grade dreams come true! Now if I can only get to milk the cow on our pioneer field trip....

Best Weekend Ever. Period.

Reason #35 I love Austin: Austin has very cool people come to visit but the pace is slow enough that I have the energy to actually go!

This weekend was the visit to Bookpeople from Maira Kalman and Lemony Snicket. They collaborated on a lovely little book called Why We Broke Up about the objects that a girl returns to her ex-boyfriend post-dump. I don't know how much more universal a thought you can get.

They were both hilarious. So cute and thoughtful and hilarious.

Afterward I got a book or two signed. Typically I run away from famous people - especially people I actually like. (like the time I walked up to Amy Sedaris and then got so nervous I began to instantaneously sweat buckets into my sweatshirt and I turned and walked away with Eric yelling "Wait, but I thought you really liked her!?" behind me)

It was fabulous and made me want to be a writer. Or illustrator. Or at least just mildly funny and lovely to be around.  A girl can dream....

My Third Grade Diet Coke Sponser

(What is one thing you can do for yourself to make this new year better? "I can stop drinking diet coke")

It's good to know I am not the only one with this addiction.
