Every girl has written these lists. At least every girl who attended Young Women's in the Sacramento suburbs. We wrote them yearly. The point was to show us that if we wanted to marry someone smart and polite and spiritual, we needed to make ourselves smart and polite and spiritual. However, I took these lists to a whole new level. Mine eventually got so specific it said things like:
He will wear Rainbow flipflops
He will like Chinese food more than italian. Cuz, let's face it, I can make italian food at home.
He will skip every once in a while
He will like 80's music. A lot.
I realized this had become a problem when I dated a guy in college for the sole reason that he matched 80% of my list. He could play my top 3 instruments, he could cook mexican food, he snowboarded and surfed, he was left handed......
But we never clicked. It just never happened.
So I gave up on lists. And then I met someone with whom I couldn't help but click.
But.... I heard this song several months ago and every time I hear it I think "If I could write another list this would be it."
I’d like to know someone
Who’s known months without sun
I’d like to know someone
Who’s learned how to sleep
When the night’s still bright
I’d like to know someone
Who comes from the mountains
Like a wall against my waves
I’d like to know someone
Who knows the quiet time
After the song is sung
I’d like to know someone
With music in their lungs
I’d like to know someone
Who lets stuff off the hook
Throw back the little ones
And when you’re not afraid to stay
I won’t be afraid of morning
And when you’re not afraid to say
I’ll never be afraid, to listen
Who knows I came undone once
I’d like to know someone
Who knows deep where they come from
