As a teacher of middle school aged boys (and as a wife of Eric) I think about how our brain retains information a LOT. We have had 2 rounds of midterms so far this year and every time I am amazed at how many questions kids get wrong even though I could have sworn they knew that answer a week ago.
The New York Times ran an article recently reporting the findings of a study on "Learning through Testing"
As a result of said-wrong answers, I have started pre-teaching vocabulary, re-teaching vocabulary, making charts, posters, graphs, etc. to re-enforce vocabulary. But maybe that isn't the right approach. maybe I should just give more quizes... maybe.
And maybe I should keep quizing Eric on where the peanut butter goes... :)
(hint: not in the freezer)
